A good 8 point still in velvet!
Here's (8 year old) Heath Stokes with an 8 point!
Dad "Randy" had spotted two deer moving thru the pines, so he walked up the road
in an effort to turn the deer and move them within "20 gauge shotgun range"
for his son Heath. (The dads were unarmed for the youth hunt)
Heath was standing on a logging road watching his dad move about 50 yards up the road,
so he didn't notice the buck that was about to step out TEN YARDS behind him!
Randy looked back at Heath... he sees the buck step out right behind the boy... but,
when the buck stepped out he (the buck) focused on Randy and didn't notice little Heath standing right under his nose.
Randy shouted, "Heath!... Buck!... Big Buck right behind you!"
The young buck never noticed Heath as the young'un wheeled, shouldered his 20 gauge,
and dropped the beast with his first shot! Now Randy... (worried that the
big buck may get back up) shouted, "Anchor em' Heath!... Shoot em' again!"
And little Heath... (at this moment is bustin' with excitement) fired high into the road embankment
missing the buck completely... Heath now looks back at Pops
with a look that said, Wat do I do now...??? Randy, laughing on the inside, calmly says,
"It's OK!... Calm down! And shoot em' again!... This time Heath placed a perfect finish shot
on the buck, putting him down for good!
So remember... take the kids hunting & fishing!
Without them, outdoor sports have no future...
It's part of our children's heritage the same as it was for our Forefathers!
This is young Chase Stephens with a "Youth Hunt deer" for the freezer!
No funny story here... Chase is all business... You can tell by that big ole smile he's wearin' :)
